Malaysia’s Central Bank Launches Three-Year Plan to Test Asset Tokenization
Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has initiated a three-year program to explore real-world asset tokenization through blockchain technology. The central bank released a roadmap aimed at transforming Malaysia’s financial landscape, with a focus on Islamic finance and supply chain management. Industry stakeholders have until March 1, 2026, to provide feedback.
The plan follows a structured timeline: proof-of-concept testing in 2026, expanded pilot trials in 2027, and eventual implementation based on findings. Key areas of exploration include supply chain finance—where tokenization could enhance transparency and payment efficiency—and Islamic finance, leveraging blockchain for Sharia-compliant products.
BNM is soliciting input from financial and tech sectors to shape a Digital Asset Innovation Hub and working group. Not all proposals will qualify, as the central bank seeks high-impact use cases.
